Since the summer of 2005 a broad alliance of environmental protectors, globalisation-critics, farmers, beekeepers and conservation politicians are fighting the cultivation of GMO crops in Germany. With widely noticed actions of civil disobedience, such as public, non-violent destruction of GMO crops, the squatting of farmers fields or test areas, as well as with well-thought-out public relation campaigns, the activists produced an intense, controversial public debate on the benefits and risks of green Gene-technology. When the crop cultivation of MON 810, a maize plant modified by the transnational corporation Monsanto, was forbidden after a long struggle in summer 2009, it was in part a success due to this creative movement. The report Let´s get rid of the GMO-shit!, documents a so called Field Liberation Week-End, during which the activist gather to plan and execute collective actions in a remote rural area in Upper Franconia, Germany.
